The Nemtsov Foundation is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Ildar Dadin, the recipient of the 2017 Courage Award.
Ildar was steadfast in his beliefs and actions, becoming one of the most prominent activists advocating for human rights and freedoms. He referred to himself as a “citizen of the world” and had zero tolerance for injustice.
Ildar Dadin fought as part of the “Freedom of Russia” legion in Ukraine against Russian aggression. His call sign was Gandhi. Ildar was killed in action near Kharkiv.
We extend our deepest condolences to all of Ildar Dadin’s friends and loved ones.
