European Parliament passes a resolution demanding an International Investigation into Boris Nemtsov’s murder

12.03.2015

The resolution was supported by all European Parliament factions. The document emphasises that the Russian opposition leader who had been fighting for democracy in Russia was killed just two days before the scheduled march against the war in Ukraine. Nemtsov was a member of the march organizing committee.

Members of the European Parliament called this crime the most significant political assassination in modern Russian history. The resolution condemns the actions of Russia’s authorities, who prevent a number of European politicians and diplomats from attending Boris Nemtsov’s funeral in order to pay tribute to his courage in the struggle for universal human values.

The resolution demands an independent international investigation into the murder of Boris Nemtsov making full use of the instruments available within the framework of the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the United Nations to ensure an impartial and fair inquiry.
