“I fully support the initiative to name a street after Boris Nemtsov. I hope the city council will approve it. I am ready to speak to them and share my father’s legacy,” said Zhanna Nemtsova.

Bonn is set to honor the memory of Boris Nemtsov. The liberal FDP party proposed naming one of the city’s streets after the murdered Russian politician. The proposal also has the support of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (The Greens) and the CDU/CSU.

It is worth noting that in November 2015, the Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom was established in Bonn by Zhanna Nemtsova. The foundation promotes the values of freedom, human rights, and education, and supports independent media as well as scholarships for activists and students who are unable to continue their studies in Russia and Ukraine.

If the proposal is approved, Bonn would become the ninth city in the world to have a street, square, or park named after Boris Nemtsov—alongside Kyiv, Washington D.C., Vilnius, Prague, Bratislava, Sofia, London, and Brampton.
